Let’s get it done this week. Let’s take action with competence and compassion to do what we can for the world’s ills, tend our chores, and do the work of this summer. We have unusual access to competence this week, and action will help us get out of the doldrums caused by the recent, highly stressful aspects. Emotions are still running at high tide as the weekend begins, but by the end of the week we may get a chance to back away from that rich emotional roller-coaster we’ve been on these last few weeks while Venus, the Sun, and Mercury all opposed powerful, difficult Pluto.
This is the last week of Sun in emotional, self-protective Cancer; the Sun joins Venus and Mercury in extroverted Leo next Friday and calls us to have a summer romance, engage our creativity, or create operatic public demonstrations. Politics enters a new, more grandstanding phase.
To help us get that work done, this week’s aspects encourage us into a much-needed industrious competence, but we need to know where to apply it. The serenity prayer can help us; may we accept what we cannot change, have the courage to change what we can, and have the wisdom to know the difference. On all levels.
Venus and Mars already in Leo can feed our creative approach and bring out our inner diva, inspire sometimes playful, often emotional, or even overblown emotional reactions. With Venus and Mars in Leo what will bother us is to feel ignored or disrespected, whether we feel that in our relationship or as a cultural entity. We’ll tend to bring everything we see in the newspapers or in the family back to ourselves and ask “How does this affect me?”. This infusion of Leo energy can bring out unusual generosity and compassionate action, once we truly understand another’s perspective, but we have to choose to get out of ourselves and empathize to bring out this magic.
As the weekend begins, Mars forms a highly irritating, temper-spiking, explosive quincunx with Uranus, a fast-moving, irritating aspect that can give us trouble with mechanical issues and exacerbate resentments. This aspect can energize our efforts, but also fuel our irritations and angers, and inflame our world’s hotspots. Luckily the Moon enters restless, potentially playful Sagittarius on Friday and gets us out of the house and into the streets, lake, woods. It brings our concerns to faraway places.
Midday on Sunday the Moon enters Capricorn, as Mercury trines serious Saturn on Tuesday’s full Moon, Venus trines Saturn on Wednesday, and helps us make sane, practical, pragmatic can use this good judgment on the many levels and dimensions. If we’ve got a major summer project, now is the time to tackle it, or at least lay out the plans. Build that wall, write an outline, prepare the camp, or organize a coordinated response.
The whole notion of work, of right-livelihood, is up for discussion this week and we may have to face some reality about our ambiguities or inner conflicts around our work on Tuesday’s Full Moon, as the Sun in nurturing, self-protective Cancer opposes the hard-working Capricorn Moon. This Full Moon encourages us to explore how to create a healthy, sustainable mandala of our life. To do so, we have to bust any illusion we have that life is all about our fun, relaxing time, if only wouldn’t work with get in the way, or all about our work, if only our private life would interfere. And break the illusion that either we nurture ourselves or we nurture others, either we engage our spiritual life or do our homework. These dichotomies are all parts of an inextricable whole, for a healthy life we weave their balance together to create a sand-painting mandala, knowing the richer and more diverse our life is, the more sustainable it becomes. We can see this on an even more complex level in our national politics, how do we create a national mandala, where everyone’s needs are balanced- police and protesters, business and workers, ecosystem and economy- and create a beautiful, sustainable whole.
On Wednesday the Moon enters Aquarius and opposes Mercury and Venus and we may wonder if our needs and other’s needs will ever be compatible. The answer is yes; we just have get creative to figure it out.
Friday, July 15: We are recovering from a tough couple of astrological days as Mars pulls away from a quincunx to Uranus; we may feel tender, our temper can still spike easily, old irritations grumble. But we can communicate and travel with ease this morning as the Moon trines Mercury and Venus, work well together this afternoon, unless we hit an old snagged within us or get hooked on resentment. Let it go, and work with what’s working right now. Use refreshing honesty, kindness, and a light touch to balance the needs of the individual and the needs of the group.
Moon enter Sagittarius 3:14 AM, Moon trine Mercury 9:42 AM, Moon trine Venus 11:46 AM, Moon conjunct Saturn 11:44 PM.
Saturday, July 16: Nervous restlessness can leave us reactive or accident prone. We may make a surprise change in direction in response to fresh information this morning. One energetic thread brings a spirit of compromise and agreement, gratitude and connection as Mercury conjuncts poetic Venus. But this mingles with an irritating Sun-Uranus square, and an energizing Sun-Mars trine, which can give us a chip on her shoulder and a need for action. We need to feel hopeful, and sense that positive change is possible, or we can get truly upset.
Moon square Neptune 2:25 AM, Sun square Uranus 7:31 AM, Mercury conjunct Venus 3:59 PM, Moon square Jupiter 5:22 PM, Sun trine Mars 11:44 PM.
Sunday, July 17: Let’s tell our stories and listen to theirs. Sharing our stories, our hopes and fears, can be deeply healing this morning as Mars trines Chiron. Not feeling heard, as a person or as a cultural entity, will really set us off. Later on, we want to do something about it, whatever it is for us; feeling there is nothing we can do about a problem leave us depressed, but competence and action satisfy us.
Moon trine Uranus 2:56 AM, Moon square Chiron 4:09 AM, Mars trine Chiron 5:42 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 1:32 PM.
Monday, July 18: Watch a tendency to depression today as the Moon conjuncts Pluto. Acceptance is very different than feeling like it’s no use, there’s nothing we can do. Do not give up. Look deeper, look for the connection, the key piece that needs doing and sharing. And engage.
Moon sextiles Neptune 11:35 AM, Moon conjunct Pluto 7:24 PM.
Tuesday, July 19: We have a wonderfully sane, if a bit grim, aspect this morning. Mercury trine Saturn can further our meditations, help us make good decisions and keep our thoughts serious and on track, but can also bring out our controlling streak. If we mistakenly think that control is a good answer to worry. Midday the Moon squares Uranus bring an unexpected direction, but make us prone to confrontation. We need to work with how to take care of both ourselves and our responsibilities under the full Moon in Capricorn at 4:56 PM. Share mutual support tonight as the enters collective Aquarius.
Mercury trine Saturn 12:27 AM, Moon trine Jupiter 2:38 AM, Moon square Uranus 11:05 AM, Moon sextile Mars 1:11 PM, Moon opposed the sun 4:56 PM, Moon enters Aquarius 9:10 PM.
Wednesday, July 20: Old friendships, familiar contacts, comfortable places, we need to know who we can rely on and lean in as Venus trine’s stabilizing Saturn this morning. Some social tension or confusion late afternoon as the Moon opposes Venus and Mercury can leave and awkwardness where between the need for the individual to stand out versus the needs of the collective group. Give everyone a little extra attention, and they can be more helpful to the whole. we give a little we get a little.
Venus trine Saturn 7:19 AM, Moon sextile Saturn 3:34 PM, Moon opposed Venus 4:25 PM, Moon opposed Mercury 9:58 PM.
Thursday, July 21: Genteel stubbornness: it can be frustrating when people stand on their philosophies, use their opinions to distance themselves from more turbulent emotional realities in the room. Accept where they are, push only where necessary; processes are already in motion now need patience.
Moon sextile Uranus 4:53 PM, Moon square Mars 7:55 PM.
