(All times MST) The stars cooperate for a potentially lovely, contemplative winter holiday season even as the world’s political mill grinds on. In the foreground the planets offer warmth and deep feelings with a little holiday magic, a thoughtful if interior holiday. In the background the planets are working on a long-term challenging restructuring of security and authority systems, challenging walls, rebuilding foundations, and push us towards safe and meaningful work. We can let these ongoing pressures ruin our holiday or let it make any sweet moments and deep feeling become all the more precious.
Winter begins as the Sun enters Capricorn at 3:22 PM MST, the Sun appears to stand still today, marking a moment for us to listen deeply in the quiet dark, and will appear to stand still for three days; the days begin to grow incrementally longer on Christmas Eve and every day thereafter as we welcome the return of the Sun and all the winter holidays that gather around this moment. Mercury conjuncts celebratory Jupiter in Sagittarius and encourages an international taste to our solstice celebrations. Our beloveds may need time alone and we may all flicker in and out of connection throughout the holidays as Venus remains in introspective and private Scorpio, and Mars in sensitive Pisces. The usual social rituals could feel less important this year, but quiet spiritual ones run very deep. Depression may waft in and out, but usually shifts with some sunlight, a quiet moment to honor our memories, and a chance to count our blessings. Deeper concerns about the World’s conditions simmers in the back ground and brews some powerful New Year’s resolutions ahead.
The planets push us towards a now-or-never call for the institutional reorganization needed to ameliorate climate change, and ask us to redefine authority, security, and right use of power, both here and around the globe over the next three years as structural Saturn approaches a conjunction with Pluto, planet of transformational power, in early 2020, while Jupiter enters Capricorn in 2019 and conjuncts Pluto in 2020, and Jupiter and Saturn conjunct in Aquarius at the end of 2020. In 2022 Pluto returns for the first time to where it was at the moment of the American Revolution. This ongoing transformation shifts between the foreground and the background, and demands our witness and participation over the next few years.
A busy Gemini Moon helps us multi- task today, during the solstice, and then we’re called home for the holidays, time to nest, as the Moon waxes full in domestic Cancer over the weekend. Questions of home and homelessness call for compassionate action. On Christmas Eve an outgoing, celebratory Leo Moon adds enthusiasm to our gatherings, helps us open our hearts and doors to extended family, though it can add some seasonal jostling for attention and a few dramatic storylines. A sprinkle of fairy dust comes Christmas eve as Mercury squares Neptune, but will need to watch out for misunderstandings, or the effects of tricky weather or spiked eggnog on our driving. Acts of true charity warm the heart, if were feeling sad this winter, it furthers to reach out and help another, our own heart responds.
The Moon enters industrious Virgo the day after Christmas which helps us assemble toys and return to work, and encourages a deeper level of talk within the family. The Virgo Moon encourages us to inventory our lives and assess what positive changes we want in the new year, but let’s keep that to ourselves rather than inventory one another. Go gently on the heart.
Friday, December 21: The day is generally positive and twinkling under a Gemini Moon and as Venus trines Neptune; we can stir many pots, though we may feel scattered if we stretch too far. We can see the magic, but could waste energy comparing our experience to our ideal. Winter begins as the Sun enters Capricorn on 3:22 PM, just before sunset on this long night. Honor the deep quiet of the solstice early in the evening, tempers may fray late tonight as the Moon squares Mars.

Saturday, December 22: Home calls us as the Moon enters domestic Cancer. Look for a flurry of cooking, decking of halls, checking in with one another. But keep the demands light as people will get crabby if they feel insensitive expectations. The full Moon in Cancer at 10:48 AM heightens existential homesickness, help us see any tension between family and work, and can leave us feeling awash with emotions and defenses. Walk away from the cookies at the peak. Focus on coziness, comfort, self-care and consideration, and, most of all, acceptance.
Moon sextile Uranus 7:20 AM, Moon enters Cancer 9:27 AM, full Moon in Cancer 10:48 AM.
Sunday, December 23: A grand trine between the Moon, Venus, and Neptune idealizes what warms our hearts but can also point out that our life never really lives up to an ideal. Art helps; get the glitter and art supplies out, sing a few songs, make others feel at home, and hearts glow.
Moon opposed Saturn 2:17 AM, Moon trine Neptune 8:02 AM, Moon trine Venus 10:55 AM, Moon opposed Pluto 6:22 PM.
Monday, December 24: The Moon enters Leo this morning and the festivities began. A party is a good idea every month when the Moon is in Leo. Play with reindeer. Make a holiday miracle for others. Let’s have something magical to reach for, whatever our path, and give that Mercury – Neptune escapism and hunger for magic good place to go. If people demand time and need attention, don’t resist; be present for them and they calm down quickly.
Moon trine Mars 1:36 AM, Moon square Uranus 7:50 AM, Moon enters Leo 9:58 AM, Mercury square Neptune 5:31 PM.
Tuesday, December 25: Morning is potentially lovely, communication flows easily as long as we give each other room. Later on, tension between the extroverts and introverts can grows as the Leo Moon squares Venus in Scorpio. Don’t try to make anybody jolly Let everyone find their own rhythm of connection and separation. If resentfulness or awkwardness builds, take a break and reconnect later.
Moon trine Jupiter 2:44 AM, Moon trine Mercury 10:05 AM, Moon square Venus 2:36 PM.
Wednesday, December 26: Get some work done today, check in with ongoing practical possibilities. Build the Christmas toys. The next two days are a good time to review our lives and assess what positive changes we want in the new year, but let’s keep that to ourselves rather than inventory one another. Avoid the tendency to work out anxiety by fixing another person’s problems without their request.
Moon trine Uranus 8:36 AM, Moon enters Virgo 10:49 AM, Moon trine Sun 7:33 PM.
Thursday, December 27: Don’t get too serious too soon. The Sun approaches Saturn, exact next week and intimates serious issues. We can feel a new sense of responsibility and tasks ahead, but it’s not here yet. Deal with confrontations about boundaries, work, responsibilities and walls. Continue to renew through interconnections and through self-care. Confusing conditions this morning as the Moon opposes Neptune can leave us fuzzyheaded, by the evening we may more perceptive and able to find a solution.
