Act as if there is a pool of high-octane astrological fuel sitting around in the open for the next two weeks. If we casually toss a spark, it could blow up. If it sits around unused, we waste its potential or let it pollute the environment. But if we can figure out how to contain and harness it for good, we have healthy fuel to drive our engines and actually get somewhere. Some challenge, frustration, concern, paranoia, or possibly even outrage at a bona- fide misuse of power can put demands on us as this weekend begins. Dangerous situations may become more dangerous, but so can our anxiety that situation is dangerous when it’s not. It will be tricky to parse those two apart. So let’s keep our eyes open, our senses aware, and stay as calm and interested as possible. Good changes may be afoot, but just bring up… Read More

The Sun is a distant orb this darkest week of the year. The energy ebbs until the winter solstice, when the Sun enters Capricorn and appears to hold still for three days before the days begin to grow longer again. Saturn, the planet that symbolizes our bones and teeth, the traditions, structure, and rules that shape our society, enters its home sign of Capricorn for the next three years. We sit on the edge of a change, so let’s make friends with the gift of Capricorn and keep our eyes open for its shadow. Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign whose determined, ambitious and competent energy is symbolized by an intriguing mer-goat, a creature with a mermaid’s tail that dives down to the bottom of the ocean of our collective consciousness to find a dream, and then walks it to the highest mountain. In Capricorn time, we need clear goals,… Read More
We’re done with one holiday and barreling on to the next, all while the world churns. The beginning of December has the astrological potential to be pretty tumultuous, so let’s get on good terms with one another and get organized for the winter holidays as soon as possible. Mercury retrogrades from December 3- December 22. Even now, as Mercury runs through its shadow (the part of the zodiac it is about to back through), transportation and communication already takes more time and attention But we can savor this community-oriented postprandial weekend first. The Moon is in friendly and collective Aquarius through Saturday where it encourages us to work in groups and have family dinners and football games. Bond in camaraderie but don’t expect anyone to get too close and personal. An ambient competitive edge can make televised sports interesting, but could bring a touchy note to family board games as… Read More
This is a week to reorganize. After this confounded election we’ll be able to see what’s really important to our life and get on with our work in this magical time after the election and before the holidays kick in. Those colorful distractions dissipate momentarily and the Sun and Mercury in Scorpio now give us focus. It’s not that we forget the past, some of us will still want to brew on retribution, but now Mercury forms a healing trine to Chiron and asks us, even begs us, to take our old wounds and use them and use the understanding and compassion we garnered to improve our present situation. On Friday and early Saturday the Moon approaches Pluto in Capricorn and can bring up recent discouragement or nudge us to worry if we’re enough or doing enough. Election fervor can press on us with a fear for the future. But… Read More
Leo energy can roar and leap like a lion, but like a lion also has a lazy streak. The Sun, Moon, and Venus all conjunct in abundant Leo and trine restless Uranus today, a day rich with expectations and dramatic undertones, and, if we’re lucky, a cat nap. With this much Leo in the air, when we’re at rest, we are at rest; we can drape sybaritically over our keyboard waiting for caresses and tidbits, and may find it hard to shift gears into action. But we can leap once we’re going; our life can move from pleasantly sociable to sitcom or tragic drama quickly. Leo loves to take things over the top, but which direction is up to us. This morning’s New Moon in Leo, and the coming leonine week, can bring us back to ourselves. Leo calls us to put ourselves in the center and be a hearth… Read More
